Hello all.
I'm new here. I just wanted to say, "Hi!" and I love chanting/kirtan/japa. I swear that is what sometimes gets me through the day...and when I have a long car trip there is nothing more rewarding than throwing on a Krishna Das CD and just singing away. :) :)

So...hello all. :) And that's about it. :) :)

Hare Krsna
Hello everyone. My name's Matt; I live in Maine and have been a spiritual searcher since I was a teen. I'm a bit new to chanting--I'm currently reading Hare Krishna books and trying to chant Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. Very occasionally I slip into ecstasy when chanting this (it's only happened a few times), most of the time it just puts me in a pleasant good mood; and sometimes (the worst) I feel like the words are hollow and I'm doing it mechanically. I have just realized that there is a correspondence between those hollow chant times and the times when I don't have a lot of love in my heart.

Into the West
I love to take all kinds of pop songs that have meaningful lyrics and offer them to my Beloved Osiris. These words here I feel as if He is talking to me"

These are from a Disney animation:

You'll be in My heart
No matter what they say
From this day on
Now and forever more

and then the lyrics called In the West from Lord of the RIngs

Why do you weep
What are these tears upon your face
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in My arms
You're only sleeping

ANd here's a poem by Mirabai I really like. I feel so inspired by her since she was so in love with Krishna even on the level of a wife who loves a husband. It is beautiful the way she could transmute her chants to the divine.

Oh Beloved Mine, sings Mira
Govind my life and dream
She has dyed her soul with His one hue
She thinks of none but Him

I really like this that I read
Awhile ago months ago some lady who was constantly flaming my LJ once wrote that I needed to try talking about something a little more normal like candy. Here's a quote that made me think about this incident. I believe the author is someone from the Kali Mandir in Laguna Beach.

This author wrote,

Don't play games. Fall in love with God. Otherwise everything you eat and do has karma anyways. Fall in love with God. Shut up about food and chant the beautiful Names of the absolute with tears in your eyes and a broken heart full of love.

Hello and welcome
Hi. I am the moderator of this community. Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you came to join here. Maybe you have some quotes about chanting or your own miraculous story to tell.

One of the things I notice is that if you ever have a bad dream, chanting the Name you most love immediatly wakes you up.

Also if you have a pet who doesn't like you no matter what, try singing the Name over and over again for a couple days. This happened to me with a dog that always growled at me anytime I walked by for months and months and my family couldn't figure out why he didn't like me. Then one day I chanted the mantra while sitting on the steps and after about one half hour, that dog came right up to me and was so loving and friendly and even let me hug him and he never again growled at me after that incident.
